You use the Parent-Child Structure on Amazon to clearly group different variants of a product. This structure consists of the overarching Parent Product and the individual, purchasable Child Products.
The Parent Product
The Parent Product serves as a placeholder and as a grouping for the various variants of the product.
- It is not purchasable and is usually shown in the search results list.
- It itself has no product-specific offer information (e.g. size or colour).
- Example: A generic
T-shirt.
The Child Product
A Child Product is a specific variant of the Parent Product and the actual purchasable product.
Child Productsdiffer from each other in at least one attribute, such assizeorcolour.- You can assign several
Child Productswith different specifications to oneParent. - Examples: A
blue T-shirt in size 40or ared T-shirt in size 36.
The Variation Theme
The Variation Theme defines how the Child Products differ from each other and thus establishes the relationship between the Parent and the Childs.
- It describes the attribute in which the variants differ, e.g.
colourorsize. Child Productscan also have multipleVariation Themes(e.g.sizeandcolourcombined).- Examples:
